07/12/2012July 12, 2012 Hawking Technologies, Inc. 35 Hammond, Suite 150 Irvine CA 92618 RE: HAWKING TECHNOLOGIES, INC. INTRODUCES THE DUAL-BAND RANGE EXTENDING PRODUCT LINE, INCREASING RANGE AND PERFORMANCE FOR THE DEMANDING WIFI NETWORK HD45X, HD45B, HOD45B, HOD45S Hi-Gain Dual-Band Wi-Fi solutions for the High-Def Media Era. Ultimate Flexibility. Maximum Performance. IRVINE, 12 JULY 2012, from Hawking Technologies– Hawking Technologies, Inc., is proud to announce the arrival of the HD45X, Hi-Gain™ Dual-Band Wireless-N Range Extender, The HD45X Hi-Gain Dual-band Wireless-N Range Extender is the first Hawking Technology dual-frequency repeater that extends your wireless 2.4GHz or 5.0GHz signal, at up to 300mbps or 450mpbs respectively. The Dual-Band frequency offers the flexibility to off-load congested Wi-Fi traffic from the 2.4GHz frequency to the less-crowded 5.0GHz frequency. While most Dual-Band devices have faster data transfer speeds on the 5.0GHz frequency, lack of range can inhibit the overall performance. The demand for constant wireless streaming is growing, and wireless dual-band coverage is essential to accommodate your high performance networking needs. In addition to extending your range, the HD45X is the first repeater in the market built with innovative seamless roaming. Unlike most repeaters that create additional networks to expand signal, the HD45X integrates with your original network and expands your total coverage without having to manually switch between devices. Configure traditionally through your Mac or Windows computer or use the latest in hassle-free installation technology, with your smartphone, or tablet. Connect your printers, desktops, gaming consoles, multimedia players, and other wired devices to the available five gigabit ports to provide blazing fast transfer speeds. Hi-Gain Dual-Band WiFi solutions for the High-Def Media Era. Ultimate Flexibility. Maximum Performance.
LAS VEGAS, 10 Jan. 2012, from CES 2012 – Hawking Technologies, Inc., introduces their new Dual-Band Wireless Range Extending solutions. These high performance products include the Hawking HD45X Dual-Band Range Extender, HD45B/HOD45B Access Point/Bridge (indoor/outdoor), and HOD45S Outdoor Smart Repeater.
Dual-Band Technology provides maximum flexibility to connect to the popular 2.4GHZ frequency and off-load traffic to a faster, less-crowded 5.0GHz frequency. Since the average 5.0GHZ frequency travels much faster, its wireless coverage is also limited. Utilizing innovative range extending technology, Hawking Technology Dual-Band range extending solutions optimize WiFi range and speed.
For years, Hawking Technology has provided numerous, award-winning products that extend WiFi networks by increasing signal strength and reducing interference from unwanted wireless sources. The new product line builds on existing Dual-Band Technology and combines it with Hawking’s unique range extending features to provide superb WiFi performance. Hawking’s exclusive Dual-Band Range Extending products are incomparable to other competing brands. Amy Tang, Director of Product Management, adds, “with indoor or outdoor solutions and optional antenna upgrade features, Hawking’s Dual Band line provides a variety of wireless applications to create a superior dual-band WiFi network or refine an existing one.”

09/30/2011HAWKING TECHNOLOGY NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Sept. 30, 2011 HAWKING UNVEILS THE NEWEST ADDITION TO ITS HI-GAIN WIFI RANGE EXTENDING LINE, THE HWREN15 HI-GAIN WIRELESS-N MINI RANGE EXTENDER. IRVINE, CA – September 30, 2011 - Hawking Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of Wi-Fi Range extending networking solutions for home and office users, announced today that it has begun shipping their Hi-Gain Wireless-N Mini Range Extender. The HWREN15 is sure to give your network the boost it needs to sustain a stable connection that ensures uninterrupted web surfing. To guarantee seamless integration with your wireless network, the HWREN15 merges into your existing WiFi network and mirrors its settings. With its compact design, the HWREN15 will easily adapt to your existing Wi-Fi network and environment. Installation takes less than two minutes. Although many homes and offices already have a wireless router to distribute signal, if your laptop is barely within the range of the router you can connect but your signal strength will be very low. This provides a stronger and more solid wireless connection to improve overall uploading and downloading speed. As a result, the user experiences faster speeds and less data lag while streaming or downloading multimedia content (video, music, etc.). Features for the HWREN15 Hi-Gain Wireless-N Mini Range Extender: · Connects and repeats any 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi network · Eliminates wireless dead spots in homes and offices · Seamless roaming feature lets you travel freely between the original and extended network – no need to fuss with the Network name or SSID · Easy setup using any networked device: smart phone, tablet, wired or wireless laptop/desktop · Extends your Wi-Fi Coverage and lets your Wi-Fi enabled devices connect freely, while at home or office · External removable antenna for quick and easy range upgrade · Small size allows for easy placement Product information Pricing and Availability: The HWREN15 Hi-Gain Wireless-N Mini Range Extender is available now via retailers, direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and distribution channels at an MSRP of $69.99 and an Estimated Street Price (ESP) of $59.99 Product Link: http://hawkingtech.com/index.php/products/wireless/repeaters_&_extenders/hwren15.html For more information please contact Claire Chu at (949) 206 -6900 x: 2010 or email at mediainquiry@hawkingtech.com. HAWKING TECHNOLOGIES INTRODUCES
THE FIRST WIRELESS-300N RANGE EXTENDER COMPATIBLE WITH ALL 802.11 B/G/N ACCESS
POINTS AND ROUTERS
Double the Effective Distance of
your Wireless 802.11b/g/n Network and Eliminate Wireless Dead Zones.
IRVINE, CA – September 22, 2008 –
Hawking Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of innovative wired and
wireless networking solutions for home, workgroup, and corporate users,
announced today that it has begun shipping the Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Range
Extender. The new, high performance Wireless-300N
Range Extender expands Hawking’s award-winning line of Hi-Gain WiFi Range
Extending products, which allow users to effectively increase the distance and
performance of their wireless networks.
The HWREN1 works by taking the
wireless signal from ANY wireless 802.11b/g/n access point or router and
re-transmits it at a higher rate, effectively doubling the distance of a given
wireless network. The Range Extender is
placed midway between the original wireless access point and the area that is
experiencing poor wireless coverage.
“Hawking has done extensive research and
development to create a new ‘repeater’ that performs at 300Mbps and is
compatible with all wireless access points regardless of the brand, chipset or
network type. We have also gone to great
lengths to make installation as simple as possible and improve upon our
successful Hi-Gain Wireless-G Range Extender,” says Jason Owen, Chief Officer
of Product Strategy.
The Hawking Wireless-300N Range
Extender is compatible with Hawking’s entire line of Hi-Gain Wi-Fi Range
Extending antennas and range boosters for further range extension.
Using the latest in 802.11n
technology, the Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Range Extender can repeat wireless
networks with speeds up to 300Mbps making the transfer of media intensive files
quick and seamless.
The new setup wizard simplifies
installation by locating all wireless networks within the vicinity of the Range
Extender. The user then chooses their
desired network and places the Range Extender between the wireless source and
the wireless dead zone.
Pricing and Availability
The HWREN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N
Range Extender is expected to be available September 30, 2008 via retailers,
direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and distribution channels at an (ESP)
Estimated Street Price of $99.99

Hawking Technologies Expands Its Print Server Line by Introducing their first
Print Server
Designed To Work With Multifunction Printers
HMPS1U
Hawking Technologies is First to Market with the HMPS1U, USB 2.0 Print Server
designed for use with
Multifunction Printers.
IRVINE, CA – March 27, 2008 – Hawking Technologies, Inc., the leading manufacturer
of network print servers,
announced today the expansion of its print server product line with the addition
of a print server designed to operate with multifunction printers as well as share
USB storage devices. This addition
to Hawking Technologies’ current line
of print servers is the first of its kind to specifically target the functionality
between multifunction printers and print
The HMPS1U connects your USB 2.0 or 1.1 multifunction printer to your existing
home or office network, allowing you
to use the printer’s multifunction capabilities (scan and copy) while sharing
the print functions of the multifunction
printer with other computers on your network. The HMPS1U uses special NetUSB
technology that recognizes print
calls from your network computers and differentiates them from scan and copy
functions, which are handled by your
network’s main multifunction capable host computer. Network users will now be
able to attach and share a
multifunction printer without the need for a dedicated computer acting as a print
server.
The HMPS1U’s advanced printer sharing capabilities also allow you to print within
your local area network or print
remotely from the any client computer outside of your network. You can use the
HMPS1U to print to your local printer
The HMPS1U can also share a USB storage device (thumb drive, card reader, hard
drive, etc…) over a network,
making it much more than just a print server. It seamlessly connects to any RJ-45
Ethernet based network and allows
you to start printing to your multifunction printer or share data after an easy
to follow setup utility installation.

GERRY BLACKWELL
GLOBE AND MAIL UPDATE AUGUST 3, 2007 AT 11:34 AM EDT Concerned about security when you're away from your small-business premises? Want to automate control of lighting and HVAC to conserve energy and save money? How about if you could remotely control and monitor everything from your cell phone? Commercial building managers are starting to install automated and remotely accessible control and monitoring systems. You can do the same, without spending a bundle, using Z-Wave-based products designed for the home market—products such as the HomeRemote Wireless Home Automation Gateway (about $250 online) and Wireless Video Camera (about $200). Hawking Technology, one of several manufacturers of Z-Wave-compatible gear, launched its HomeRemote line earlier this year. I built a test system using the Hawking gateway and camera with Z-Wave lighting control units from Intermatic. (You can also get Z-Wave-compatible thermostats.) The system lets me use any Internet connected computer to control lights in my home office and view live video from the camera. For Internet access to the gateway, you need to subscribe to a "dynamic DNS" service that allows a remote computer to access your computer or server through its high-speed Internet connection. Hawking provides 30 days of DDNS service for free, after which you'll pay about $30 a year. I can also monitor and control my office from a cell phone using Hawking's Cell Link service, which costs about $90 a year. The gateway is a small, modem-size device with an antenna. It comes with a remote control of the kind that works through walls. You plug the gateway into a network router using the included Ethernet cable. This allows you to control it from any computer on the network—or the Internet—using a Web browser. The gateway sets up its own separate Z-Wave network for controlling lights, etc. I installed two Intermatic Z-Wave plug-in dimmer modules and an in-wall dimmer switch (about $60 each). The plug-in modules simply plug into a wall socket, then you plug the lamp or other device you want to control into the module. The Hawking products were pretty easy to set up. Both come with software wizards that walk you step-by-step through the process, automating much of it. The camera virtually installed itself. Adding the Intermatic lighting control modules to the Z-Wave network using the gateway's remote is a slightly tedious but not complicated procedure. Ditto for programming the remote to control the lights. Setting up Cell Link is a little more involved, in part because Hawking doesn't yet officially support Canadian cellular carriers. But it can be done, at least with some devices. The gateway software, which lets you turn devices on or off from a computer, set timers and program "scenes" for controlling a number of devices at once, is rudimentary compared to others, such as HomeSeer's HS2 home automation software. But it does the basics, and it makes setting up remote monitoring and control surprisingly easy. Home Control Via Cell Phone

06/08/2007Home Control Via Cell Phone June 05, 2007 | by Ben Hardy
The new HomeRemote system from Hawking Technologies, Inc. began shipping recently. The system features Z-wave technology, and enables users to control automation devices throughout the home, including lighting systems, security, appliances, heating, and more. The The HomeRemote system comes with a remote control for in-home management
of the system; users can also access and manipulate the system through web-based
browsers and cell phones.
Particularly attractive features include the ability to receive emails and text
messages when motion detection devices are triggered in the home, and the ability
to access and view home security cameras through a cell phone.
In an age when everyone owns a cell phone, the integration of this device into
the control aspect of a home’s automation system seems worth the price. No home
control system would be complete without the ability to create settings and scenes—HomeRemote
can do this, too, e.g. scheduling lights to turn on and off to give the appearance
of an occupied home when on vacation.
The HomeRemote Gateway package, which includes a remote control, sells for around
$230. The system is available for purchase directly from the HomeRemote Online
Store, at www.homeremote.net.
Between watching re-runs of the “The Jetsons” and convincing his Insteon and
Z-Wave controls to get along, Ben Hardy is immersed in the world of home automation,

HWUG1A Adapter’s Removable Antenna Allows Mac Users to Upgrade to Antennas from Hawking’s Full Suite of Hi-Gain™ Wifi Range Extending Products IRVINE, CA – May 25, 2007 – Hawking Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of wired/wireless networking and home automation solutions for small office/home office (SOHO) and small-to-medium business (SMB) users, announced the release of its HWUG1A Wireless-G USB Adapter for Mac Users today. The HWUG1A is the first such adapter designed for Apple® Mac users with a removable antenna. The included external antenna can easily be removed and upgraded to a Hawking Hi-Gain™ antenna for a significant improvement in wireless range. “The problem with wireless networks these days isn’t the speed, but the distance. If your wireless adapter does not have the wireless strength to go the distance, your network speed won’t make any difference. You’ll either end up with a weak signal or get dropped from your network entirely, and that results in slow file transfers and a lack of mobility. Like its sister product, the HWUG1 for PC users, the HWUG1A provides Mac users with the extended wireless range they need. The removable antenna gives Mac users the ability to customize their wireless networks for their specific applications. Most importantly, the HWUG1A can resolve most WiFi trouble spot scenarios by allowing users to choose from our full suite of Hi-Gain WiFi Range Extending solutions. And the best part: installing the HWUG1A is easy – just pop in the CD to install the software, plug in the adapter, and you’re connected,” said Amy Tang, Marketing Manager at Hawking Technologies. The HWUG1A connects to any Mac desktop or notebook computer using a USB 2.0 connection and features an antenna that easily unscrews from the adapter. Hawking offers a wide range of both Hi-Gain™ indoor and outdoor antennas that are compatible with the HWUG1A and can boost the user’s wireless connection distance up to 600%. The HWUG1A also supports wireless Turbo Mode for connection speeds of up to 108Mbps when connected to a Hawking Technologies Wireless-108G MIMO Router. Advanced security features and support for WPA2 and WPA ensure that all data is encrypted and secure. The HWUG1A offers the following key features: • Wireless networking compatibility with any Mac OS X 10.3-10.4 (Intel or Power PC) system. • External antenna allows for significantly improved wireless range and performance. • Installs in seconds with intuitive, easy-to-follow Setup Wizard. • Supports WPA2, WPA, and WEP wireless security. • Plug-and-Play compatibility with all Hawking Hi-Gain™ WiFi Range Extending Antennas. • Supports Turbo Mode for wireless data speeds of up to 108Mbps. Owen. “They just want the hardware to work, and they want it to work easily and intuitively. Hawking understands this and always strives to provide the most convenient and
powerful solution with all of its products. We see home control evolving with networking technology, and are offering a complete
solution that harnesses the power of the internet and mobile phones.”

11/20/2006Hawking Technology HNC290G Wireless-G Network Camera Hawking Technology’s slick, affordable Wireless-G Network Camera provides easy setup for Web access.

The Hawking Technology HNC290G Wireless-G Network
Camera gives peace of mind to any homeowner. Unlike a webcam that
attaches to your laptop over USB, this network camera uses an 802.11b/g
network and feeds a 640 x 480-pixel video signal (sans audio) back to
your PC.
The Setup Wizard features DDNS and UPnP technology, which allow for automatic router port opening and custom domain assignment for remote viewing over the Web. The 4.9 x 4.1 x 4.1-inch device is less bulky than pan-tilt-zoom cams we’ve tested. Video looked good, but not great; the feed was slightly washed out but still passable for an Internet camera. The motion-sensing feature worked perfectly, automatically recording a video snippet and sending a still image via e-mail. While not exactly home-movie quality, the HNC290G is definitely good enough to let you see an intruder or a flooded basement.

It's not much in the way of looks or portability, but this router has power in
spades.
Price: $69
by John Brandon Date Posted: 03/26/2006 Forget MIMO. If you don't mind a dish that looks like it was pulled straight out of The Empire Strikes Back, save the extra 100 bucks you'd spend on a new router/PC Card combo, and pick up the Hawking's latest Hi-Gain USB adapter. The range is up to 800 feet with 22 Mbps of throughput. A signal indicator helps you position the dish for the best signal. The device is easy to install, but because of its bulk and awkward shape, we recommend it for home users and not road warriors. Frequent travelers should consider the new Hi-Gain Mini Wireless-G USB Adapter ($59) instead. |

Mac Mini and HNT1A Net-Talk Phone
see more
04/06/2006Mini Media Mac: mini Land-line
Combining your mini with a USB Skype handset and Skype's cheap call-out service can turn your mini into a virtual land-line with long distance calling rates no traditional phone company can beat. Forget paying a monthly fee. For about $4/month you can even buy a phone number for your Skype account and have people call you from land-line phones. And with more than 40 million members, you'll be able to talk to tons of Skype users for free. One word of warning: the phone service described here should not be considered a full replacement for your traditional phone line - as it does NOT support 911 emergency calling.
The Hardware
Contrary to what you may read, the Free-1 isn't the only Mac-compatible Skype phone. For the purposes of this tutorial I went with the Net-Talk because it has a display on the unit that allow you to use it without interacting with your Mac. The Software
Skype is a free download, and your account is free to open. To call out to regular phones you will need to purchase SkypeOut credit (in increments of $10) and to purchase a phone number by which land-line callers can reach you, you'll need to buy SkypeIn at $12/3 months or $35/year. Now, to put it all together - with Skype installed you are ready to install the Net-Phone's drivers. Once you have granted the Net-Phone access to the Skype API (in Skype) you are ready to make calls from your handset. From the Net-Phone you can start Skype and make calls. From the Net-Phone you can navigate between Skype's tabs, your contacts list and recent calls. Using the navigational wheel you can also view and select contacts and recent numbers and start calls. The handset can be used for free Skype-to-Skype calls as well as calls out to external numbers. Incoming calls from Skype users or external numbers via SkypeIn ring on the handset and can be answered just as you would your old analog phone (you must be logged in to your Skype account on your Mac to receive calls). We should note that Skype requires an audio input - which out of the box the mini lacks. The Net-Phone satisfies this requirement and also makes up for this lack by including input and output jacks for microphones and headsets right on the unit. In addition to interfacing directly with Skype, the Net-Phone is recognized by the OS as an audio input and output. This means that while the dial pad may work only with Skype, the handset can be used with audio chat applications like iChat AV. Hardware buttons for volume and mute are quite useful too. The Net-Phone complements new Mac silver-on-white hardware and the back-lit display is very readable. The handset makes Skype's cheap calling easy and accessible. And, thanks to the power of VoIP you can take your Skype account anywhere and call from any Internet connection. Please direct comments/corrections on the article to the author, brian AT macmerc

HomeRemote: Affordable Wireless Home Automation

01/03/2006FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HomeRemote™ Allows Homeowners to Monitor, Control and Secure Their Homes from
an Internet Web-Browser Anywhere in the World!
IRVINE, CA – January 3rd, 2006 – Hawking Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of innovative wired and wireless networking solutions for home, workgroup, and corporate users, unveiled today its plans to introduce HomeRemote™, a line of web accessible wireless home automation products. The vision of Hawking Technologies’ CEO, Frank Lin, is to "…efficiently connect people to everyday accessories and appliances to make life more enjoyable and secure." The HomeRemote™ System is a large step forward in this direction. What Does it Do?
The HomeRemote™ System from Hawking Technologies is an innovative control panel
to your home from anywhere in the world. From work or at a coffee shop halfway
around the world, homeowners are able to keep an eye on their homes, secure their
property from intruders and control daily appliances with the click of a mouse.
Using a standards-based wireless technology known as ZigBee™ from Freescale Semiconductor,
the Hawking HomeRemote™ System communicates wirelessly with local sensors and
devices that homeowners have set up within their homes. The sensors and devices
allow for the detection of open and closed doors and windows, on and off control
of power outlets and lights throughout the home, reading of room temperatures
and many more useful features. Using the broadband internet connection within
the home, the HomeRemote™ System relays this information securely to any web browser
in the world for the user to monitor and control.
Home Security
HomeRemote™ is an affordable home security system that can alert the homeowner
of security breaches at several different locations within the home. Using motion
detectors and window/door sensors, the HomeRemote™ System will notify the user
in real-time via the web-based control panel, email notifications, or text messages
to a cell phone, that a specific event has occurred. The HomeRemote™ can also
trigger an alarm to sound or audio/video recording to begin.* The system has scheduling
capabilities to turn outdoor and indoor lights on automatically, thereby warding
off intruders with the appearance of a busy home.
Automating and Controlling the Home
The HomeRemote™ System allows homeowners to customize controls geared towards
their specific lifestyles. Besides actuating individual appliances, such as lights,
televisions, radios etc., HomeRemote™ can schedule a group of events to occur
at a specific time of day. Whether it’s turning all lights on at a specific time
or simply turning the television on when a person is detected in the room, the
HomeRemote™ system is custom-tailored to meet the needs of the homeowner.**
Knowing What Really Matters
When on vacation, keeping an eye on the kids won’t be an issue anymore with the
HomeRemote™ System. The system allows homeowners to watch video and listen to
audio in real-time from within your home.* Monitoring the kids and important utilities,
such as the status of your water supply, air quality and temperature is easily
done through Hawking’s HomeRemote™ System, giving you the peace of mind that your
home is under control.
Do-It-Yourself Installation
Installation of the HomeRemote™ System is very simple and requires no professional
assistance. Included in the package is a Setup Wizard which will quickly guide
you through the initial setup of the Gateways and devices associated to your system.
Once this has been completed, simply place the devices in their desired locations
and they will wirelessly communicate with the Gateway, which in turn, will provide
the controls to your home from a user defined, easy to remember, web address such
as www.HawkingDemo.HomeRemote.net.
The System
The system offerings consist of two gateways: The HRG1 Wireless Home Automation
Gateway, and the HRH1 Wireless Home Automation Hub. The HRG1 combines the Wireless
Home Automation Gateway with a Wireless-G Router for a total home internet access
package. In the case that you already have a broadband connection at home with
an existing router, the HRH1 is a standalone Home Automation Hub that simply plugs
into the Ethernet port of your current network. A slew of wireless sensors and
devices are also on the product roadmap to support the system and its applications.
The following products will be ready to ship during the launch of the HomeRemote™
line:
HRG1 – Wireless Home Automation Gateway (Includes Wireless-G Router)
HRH1 – Wireless Home Automation Hub
HRDS1 – Wireless Door/Window Sensor
HRPO1 – Wireless Power Outlet
HRPO7 – Wireless 7-Outlet Power Strip
HRSE1 – Wireless Signal Extender
* Audio and Video integration is available as a Phase 2 addition.
** Motion Detector device required and is available as a Phase 2 addition.
Pricing and Availability :
The HomeRemote™ System is slated to ship in Q2 of 2006. Pricing is TBD. (Starter
Kit will be at a sub $299 price point)
Display and Demo:
- The HomeRemote™ System will be on display at CES from January 5th to January
8th, 2006 in the Freescale Semiconductor Booth located in the South Hall #3, Booth
# 30718
- Hawking will also be having a live demo of basic features at the ShowStoppers
media event at the Wynn Hotel January 5th, 2006.

Hawking Unveils Net-Talk Internet Phone For Skype

09/06/2005HAWKING TECHNOLOGIES UNVEILS THE NET-TALK™ VoIP INTERNET PHONE DESIGNED FOR USE WITH SKYPE AND COMPATIBLE MESSAGING CLIENTS HNT1 Make discreet calls freely over the Internet as easy as using a standard cellular phone. IRVINE, CA – August 18, 2005 – Hawking Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of innovative wired and wireless networking solutions for home, workgroup, and corporate users, unveiled today its plans to begin shipping the Net-Talk™ Internet USB Phone. The new Internet Phone is the first of an entire line of VOIP (Voice Over IP) products from Hawking that allow users to make private calls online from a handset, forgoing the need to speak and listen from an external microphone and speaker set. The HNT1 works by interfacing with Skype, the most popular VoIP software (150,529,055 downloads as of 8/18/2005) for making free calls over the Internet. The included Net-Talk™ software allows the Internet Phone to control Skype’s most commonly used functions, eliminating the need to access the program with a computer. As long as the HNT1 is connected to a computer with a USB cable, the Net-Talk™ Internet Phone can remotely control Skype. The Hawking Net-Talk™ Internet USB Phone is designed to be a versatile and robust solution for making calls on the go. Besides Skype support, the phone is fully compatible with most messaging software clients with voice capabilities. A few of these include AOL’s Instant Messenger™, Yahoo! Messenger™, and MSN Messenger™. The HNT1 doubles as a microphone and speaker unit for playback and recording of audio content and also has auxiliary jacks for plugging in audio accessories. The HNT1 comes with advanced features including a backlit LCD display, volume and mute control, echo-cancellation, and 4 user-selectable ringtones. “The Net-Talk™ Internet Phone allows users to make calls like you would on a cell phone regardless of your location. With wireless Hot-Spots steadily increasing around the globe, a Net-Talk™ Internet Phone equipped user can place VoIP based calls from airports, coffee shops or school campuses without worrying about roaming charges or long distance fees. The problem with using Skype with a standard PC microphone and speaker set is that you lose the ability to communicate privately and the sound quality is not as clear because of echoing effects. The HNT1 eliminates these problems,” says Jason Owen – Chief Marketing Manager at Hawking. The Hawking Net-Talk™ Internet USB Phone installs easily onto any desktop or laptop computer with a broadband or wireless access to the Internet. Just plug-and-play the unit into a USB port, install the Net-Talk™ software, and the Hawking Internet Phone is ready to go. Pricing and Availability The HNT1 Net-Talk Internet USB Phone is expected to be available September 10th, 2005 via retailers, direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and distribution channels at an (ESP) Estimated Street Price of $59. For business travelers, students, telecommuters, or anyone who spends a lot of time on the go, wireless range is more important than speed. That's where the Hawking Technology Hi-Gain Wireless-G Cardbus Adapter HWC54D excels. The card doesn't set any speed records and won't win any awards for innovative security features, but you can quickly add about 200 feet of coverage to your WLAN, thanks to the powerful 6-dbi directional antenna. Unlike just about every other PC Card on the market, the HWC54D antenna rotates easily for the best reception. Once you set up shop at the local library or coffee bar, you can move the antenna toward the access point for better throughput and signal strength. Using a tool such as Netstumbler (www.netstumbler.com) on your laptop to monitor signal strength, you move the antenna and find the access point with the strongest signal. The antenna reduces interference caused by microwave ovens and portable phones. The wireless signal transmits directionally out of the antenna instead of broadcasting in all directions. In tests with the Hawking HWR54G router, the HWC54D provided a steady 1- to 2-Mbps throughput from about 500 feet. Compared to a standard 802.11g PC Card, such as SMC Networks' EZ Connect-g 54Mbps Wireless Cardbus Adapter SMC2835W, the Hawking HWC54D added about 200 feet of coverage. On a super-fast Belkin Pre-N router, the Hawking HWC54D managed to connect at about 19 Mbps from 5 feet, or about half the speed of the matching Belkin card-quite admirable considering the Hawking card uses standard 802.11g. It's worth noting that the HWC54D typically retails for under $100, compared to the $130 price tag on higher-end cardbus adapters such as the new Linksys SRX and Netgear MIMO cards. For a much lower cost, you can now add a lot more range without having to invest in a new router for your home. At public hotspots, you can move farther away from the crowd and still get a steady signal. Hawking didn't add too many extra features to the HWC54D. You can enable WPA and the less secure WEP (in either 64-bit or 128-bit modes), but there's no AES or WPA2 support. The card doesn't support any of the newer high-speed protocols such as Super-G, Afterburner, MIMO, or even frame-bursting mode, so the only speed gains come purely from the directional antenna. The installation program that comes with the card worked well, adding the drivers to our laptop without any problems. We did notice that the HWC54D configuration program, which lets you search for and attach to wireless networks, crashed on a Media Center 2004 PC, yet worked flawlessly on systems running Windows XP. If the extra 200 feet of coverage means you can now connect from your office cubicle to the fast 802.11g router on another floor, or from a backyard patio, the Hawking HWC54D is worth the expense. You won't have to invest in a new router and PC Card combo or deal with the headaches of a new wireless network. The HWC54D is a quick wireless range fix without any confusing extras. |

CRN Test Center Recommends Hi-Gain
see more
08/12/2005
Luckily, the wireless market has matured enough to offer advanced solutions to
these deployment problems. Hawking Technology, for example, has developed directional
antennas that extend the reach of wireless transmissions, and therefore, wireless
networks. CRN Test Center engineers set out to demonstrate how solution providers
can build wireless solutions using off-the-shelf Wi-Fi components from Hawking's
product line.
Our goal was to extend a wired LAN to another location several thousand feet away, a common distance for many campus-based environments or companies with multiple warehouses. With a wired connection, a solution provider would simply "bridge" the two buildings using an Ethernet bridge to move Ethernet traffic from one site to the other. Interestingly, a wireless solution is not all that different than the wired solution, but there are several wireless best practices that need to be applied. First off, there is the issue of line of sight. To successfully deploy a wireless bridge, it's useful to have a direct point-to-point view between connections, with no permanent obstructions. This is the key to maximum performance and maximum range. Solution providers also should consider automotive traffic or other "temporary" obstructions that may exist in the proposed deployment environment. Secondly, solution providers need to consider securityï¾—after all, a company's private information will be travelling via the wireless connection. Other elements to consider include selecting the appropriate antennas, cables, bridges and so on. Test Center engineers selected a pair of Hawking's HAO14SD outdoor antennas, a pair of HAC30N cables and a pair of HWBA54G 802.11G wireless bridges. That combination of components should suffice for connecting two locations up to a mile away from each other. The outdoor antenna boasts a narrow 30 degree transmission angle, which helps to focus the signal over a distance and provide as much as 14dBi increase in signal strength. The 802.11g bridges are pretty basic and include encryption capabilities and antenna connectors. The rugged antennas are sealed to protect them from the elements. Hawking includes a versatile mounting kit that allows installers to "aim" the antennas. Once the line-of-sight issues are addressed, initial setup is a simple plug-and-play process. Test Center engineers did experience some setup problems with the bridges, but these were quickly solved by upgrading the bridges' firmware. After initial setup, integrators should immediately turn on the bridges' security features, since the 30 degree transmission profile of the antennas will let data seep out. This data will be susceptible to eavesdropping unless it is encrypted. Hawking's browser-based setup wizards for the bridges simplify most setup chores, while still allowing integrators to access some of the higher functions, such as transmission power, to fine-tune the devices for maximum security and performance. While 802.11g isn't as fast as traditional Fast Ethernet data rates of 100 Mbps, throughput should be adequate for several users relying on the main site for data and Web access. Performance can be improved by deploying multiple bridges and antennas to segment the network further, giving more bandwidth to each user.... ...Hawking's HAO14SD antenna costs $99.99, the HAC30N cable costs $29.99, and the HWBA54G bridge/access point is priced at $129. |

08/12/2005Hawking Technologies Introduces the HBB1 Broadband Booster to manage and boost the performance of home and office internet applications by up to 400% HBB1
IRVINE, CA – June 27, 2005 – Hawking Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of innovative wired and wireless networking solutions for home, workgroup, and corporate users, unveiled today its plans to begin shipping the HBB1 Broadband Booster. The HBB1 is a device that eliminates internet lag within home/work networks and boosts the speed of time-sensitive internet applications (such as online gaming, VoIP internet phone calls and video streaming) by up to 400%. The Hawking Broadband Booster features StreamEngine Technology from Ubicom to manage and streamline outgoing data traffic from any Broadband network. Applications such as, VoIP internet phone calls, online console or computer gaming, file sharing, e-mail, web surfing, instant messaging, peer-to-peer programs and web cameras are used daily in home and office networks. These applications compete for access to the limited bandwidth of internet connections. Even with broadband internet access, network traffic congestion caused by multiple applications sharing a single connection can result in poor VoIP quality, choppy web video, and “laggy” or unresponsive online game play. Hawking’s Broadband Booster constantly analyzes data packets traveling out of your network and identifies those that require “boosting” or prioritization due to their time-sensitive nature. These selected packets receive a clear, uninterrupted path to the internet resulting in a seamless internet experience for the end user. Whenever additional bandwidth is available on the network, it is used to transfer less urgent information such as documents being delivered through e-mail. The result is that a person can send e-mail, upload files, browse the internet, participate in a video conference and simultaneously play an online game without losing responsiveness in game play, disrupting the video conference or degrading their internet experience.

07/29/2005“Detect and Connect” - Hawking Technologies Introduces the WiFi Locator Professional Edition with
a Hi-Gain Directional Antenna and built-in Wireless-G USB Adapter for both Apple
and PC Users
HWL2 and HWL2A Detect and Connect to any Wireless Hot Spot with Hawking Technologies WiFi Locator
Professional Edition.
IRVINE, CA – June 9, 2005 – Hawking Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of innovative wired and wireless networking solutions for home, workgroup, and corporate users, announced today its plans to begin shipping the HWL2, WiFi Locator Professional Edition (PC Version) and HWL2A WiFi Locator Professional Edition For Apple Users (Mac Version), spawning from the success of the original WiFi Locator. The WiFi Locator Professional Edition is a pocket sized unit that detects the presence of WiFi wireless networks and connects via USB 2.0 to a Laptop or PC to allow for wireless access. The HWL2/HWL2A eliminates the need to remove and power up your notebook PC to detect whether a WiFi network is present. The HWL2 and HWL2A add new features for improved functionality and quality. The Hawking WiFi Locator Professional Edition utilizes Hawking's award winning Hi-Gain Antenna technology and experience to allow users to pin-point the exact location of any wireless network. The new and improved flip-open Hi-Gain 5.5 dBi directional antenna gives the user a tool to decipher the direction that a wireless signal is coming from. When connected and used as a Wireless-G USB Adapter the Hi-Gain directional antenna provides an increase in wireless distance of up to 300% when compared to standard wireless adapters. "Most WiFi detectors on the market currently only have weak omni-directional antennas so when the user detects a Hot Spot he or she is still uncertain whether it is in front of them or behind them. With the Hawking HWL2, the user can move the WiFI Locator around in a 360 degree pattern to find the strongest signal and follow it in that direction to find the source of the Hot Spot. After the signal is found he or she can then connect to that wireless network by attaching the HWL2 or HWL2A to their Laptop via USB. The new Hi-Gain antenna allows for wireless connections up to 250% greater than their current embedded Centrino versions offer." says Jason Owen, Product Marketing Manger at Hawking Technologies. Along with detecting the signal strength of wireless networks, the WiFi Locator Professional Edition displays information on wireless security and the specific wireless network type. The WiFi Locator Professional Edition notifies the user whether the detected network has WiFi security (WPA and WEP) enabled and whether it is an 802.11b or 802.11g network. The HWL2 and HWL2A are powered by internal batteries that are recharged when the Locator is connected via USB to a Laptop or PC. The batteries never have to be replaced. “The introduction of the HWL2A WiFi Locator Professional Edition for Apple Users is a big step forward towards our mission to support all platforms,” says Owen. He adds,“ Hawking will soon introduce an entire suite of Apple specific wireless networking products that are fully supported with Mac OS specific software and hardware.” Pricing and Availability -The HWL2 WiFi Locator Professional Edition begins shipping June 10th, 2005 via retailers, direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and distribution channels at a MSRP of $99 and an Estimated Street Price (ESP) of $79.99. |

Ultimate Wireless Guide:Â Â Extending the Range
If you've tried different locations for your wireless router, but you still have some dead spots around the house, consider a range-extending product. Signal strength is the key to a good Wi-Fi experience because performance drops off dramatically as signal strength decreases. The easiest and cheapest way to increase the range of your network is to replace your router's external antenna with one that is more efficient at transmitting and receiving the signal. Unfortunately, not all routers have removable antennas; the Buffalo and D-Link routers on our chart are two that do.
Smarter Coverage
The unidirectional and corner models gave us a significant increase in signal strength and range during our informal testing inside a typical wood-frame house. The Hawking HAI6SIP omnidirectional antenna, however, offered little improvement, presumably because the built-in antennas on our D-Link and Actiontec test routers (the latter of which didn't make our chart) are very good.
In any case, you should use a directional antenna only when you want to provide coverage to a specific area, because rooms outside a directional antenna's narrow broadcast path will get even weaker signals--if they get any at all. We also tested a preproduction version of the Hawking HSB1 ($89), a signal booster that connects between the router and the router's stock antenna and amplifies the signal. The HSB1 worked wonders, giving us very good signal strength in all of the dead or low spots we previously had. The HSB1 allows you to adjust the signal strength, so you can boost the signal enough to cover the dead spots without extending the range to your neighbor's house. In addition, Hawking offers the HWU54D USB adapter ($49). It includes a directional antenna that you can point toward the router and its built-in antenna; the device gave us double the signal strength that we obtained with other USB Wi-Fi adapters. -- Becky Waring

KVM Switches give SOHO access to multiple PCs
see more
09/09/2004September 1, 2004
A plethora of IT devices, from networking products to power protection gear, have made their mark in the home and provide excellent functionality and rich opportunities for digital integrators in the SOHO/home markets. KVMs, once relegated to commercial sales, now join the list. KVMs provide access to multiple PCs or devices through a single dedicated monitor, keyboard and mouse. With many homes now owning several computers, and with more multimedia content stored on numerous devices, KVMs are becoming an increasingly common piece of an integrator's offerings. "Do not underestimate how much money resellers can make selling KVMs," says George Karyotakis, CEO of Home/Office Digital Tech Solutions, Little Neck, N.Y. "The margins on these products are generally still quite high."
KVMs can serve a wide variety of purposes in the home. In the past, while many homes would discard obsolete PCs, many are now saving them to run applications that require low computing capability, such as word processors or spreadsheet software, or because they contain applications and games that are no longer commercially available. Consumers are also storing financial or other sensitive information on older computers and isolating them from the home network or Internet connection to secure the data. In addition, many homes are now using PCs or other devices to archive multimedia content, such as MP3 files, digital photographs and DVD movies and store backup files or other personal data. IDC predicts that by 2006, the KVM market should grow to $925 million, up from about $725 million this year. Digital Connect Lab engineers reviewed KVMs from four vendors that serve a variety of needs in the home. The SwitchView USB four-port ($170) switch with audio from Avocent uses USB ports to allow end users to easily switch between as many as four PCs, share access to a connected printer, scanner, CD-ROM drive, digital camera, PDA or other USB device. Users can even share speakers. The MiniView Extreme Multimedia KVMP switch ($129) from IOGEAR enables a user to operate both a Mac and a PC simultaneously, even sharing multimedia audio files and peripherals between the computers. One of the common problems whenever multiple PCs or devices are used in a home is the unsightly overabundance of cables. Belkin's OmniView SOHO Series four-port KVM switch with audio has a small footprint and a cable management shroud that neatly streams cables through the back of the unit. Belkin's line of SOHO KVM switches include support for audio devices and are flash upgradable. Hawking Technology offers two KVMs for less than $100, but don't let the low
price tag mislead: Hawking products are designed for high quality and ease of
use, without sacrificing performance. Hawking's two-port HKS2AU ($99) offers USB
and PS/2 connectivity for two PCs and support for audio and microphone. Hawking's
four-port HKS104 offers basic USB and PS/2 connectivity for up to four PCs for
$69.

Hawking Expands its Hi-Gain 24 Series

02/26/2004HAI15SC
Hawking’s Hi-Gain 24 Series WiFi Antennas Significantly Increase the Distance
of 802.11b/g Wireless Networks
IRVINE, CA – October 15, 2003 – Hawking Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of Hi-Gain Wi-Fi Antennas
for Wi-Fi access points and network adapters with removable antennas, today announced
the launch of the Hi-Gain 15dBi Corner Antenna (HAI15SC). Compliant with both, 802.11b and 802.11g wireless standards, the HAI15SC increases
the antenna strength of standard wireless devices (i.e. access points, workgroup
bridges, network adapters) from the 2dBi industry standard to a powerful 15dBi. It is the first indoor Wi-Fi antenna solution to offer a corner mount design
(to optimize wireless coverage) and a gain level of 15dBi. Â
Â
The HAI15SC, which is an expansion of Hawking Technologies’ successful Hi-Gain
24 Series WiFi Antenna line, delivers a significant increase in wireless coverage
by raising the gain level of standard Wi-Fi antennas and utilizing a design that
provides optimal coverage for indoor situations. A large problem with many wireless networks is the poor coverage of standard
wireless networking devices and the short operating distance of the 802.11g (54Mbps
data rate) wireless standard. Hawking Technologies’ Hi-Gain Corner Antenna offers a solution to this problem
for the consumer, Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) and Enterprise markets.
Â
The Hawking Technologies Hi-Gain Corner Antenna includes a mounting kit for mounting
the antenna in any corner of any room. The design of the antenna and output radius allows for complete coverage of any
conference room, building or open space. The HAI15SC is an affordable, easy-to-install upgrade (simply unscrew the original
antenna and screw in the Hawking Hi-Gain Wi-Fi Antenna) that enables users to
take full advantage of their wireless networks.Â
Â
Incorporating Hawking’s HACSA (SMA to MCX) and HACST (SMA to TNC) antenna connector
adapters, the HAI15SC is compatible with all major brands of wireless devices
on the market.
Â
For more information on the entire line of Hawking Technologies’ Hi-Gain Antennas,
please visit www.hawkingtech.com
Â
Pricing and Availability
The Hi-Gain 15dBi Corner Antenna (HAI15SC) is expected to be available in late
October, 2003, via retailers, direct marketers, e-commerce sites and distribution
channels, at a retail price of around $79.

Introducing the HGA11 Wireless Gaming Adapter

02/26/2004HGA11
Hawking’s Wireless Gaming Adapter gives gamers Wireless Internet and Head-to-head
console Game Play.
IRVINE, CA – February 20, 2003 – Hawking Technologies, a leading manufacturer of wired and wireless networking
equipment for the Home User and Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) markets, today
announced its Zero Configuration Wireless Gaming Adapter (HGA11). The Wireless
Gaming Adapter allows Ethernet-ready gaming consoles, such as the PlayStation®2,
Xboxâ„¢, and GameCubeâ„¢, to go wireless for live internet multi-player gaming or
direct wireless head-to-head gaming.
The Hawking Wireless Gaming Adapter alleviates the stress of bringing an Ethernet
cable into the living room. While most gaming consoles are located within the living room, currently most
living rooms do not have easy internet access. Accommodating the room with an Ethernet connection usually requires going in-between
walls or under carpets. The HGA11 solves this situation by providing a wireless connection from your
gaming console to your wireless network, eliminating the need to install new cables.Â
Exciting online gaming is determined by your connection speed and overall frame
rate. To ensure the highest speed connection and zero-lag gaming, the Hawking Wireless
Gaming Adapter supports 802.11b wireless networking for up to 11Mbps transfer
speeds.Â
For Head-To-Head gaming, two or more Hawking Wireless Gaming Adapters may be
purchased and used in a private network. The HGA11 features a “One Touch†button that will switch the gaming mode from
Internet game play to Head-To-Head game play.Â
The unique Zero Configuration installation feature of the HGA11 makes setup as
easy as it gets. Simply connect the HGA11 to your Ethernet ready gaming console and it will automatically
sense the settings of your wireless network. Once the settings have been determined the Wireless Gaming Adapter will automatically
adjust its settings to match your network settings.Â
“True Plug and Play installation is a must in the gaming industry, where customers
are very demanding and expect products to work out of the box with no questions
asked. That is the reason the gaming console market does so well. The products work
as expected with no installation problems almost every time. We understood this coming into this project (HGA11) and developed a product that
met the high standards of gamers today.â€Â said Sidd Sartha, Hawking Technologies Product Manager.

support, including firmware updates.

02/26/2004(11/03/03) "Hawking Seemless Out Of The Box" - HWR54G , HAI15SC CRN Gives Hawking's Hi-Speed Wireless G Router and Hi-Gain Corner Antenna a Recommended Rating!
"Hawking Technologies added another device to its stable of products geared to
the digital home and small office with the HWR54G wireless-g router. CRN Test
Center engineers found the HWR54G to be an out-of-the-box seamless solution for
sharing a single broadband Internet connection among the computers in a small
office or digital home. The unit, slated to ship this week, offers a 54-Mbps transfer
rate and will fall back to speeds of 11 Mbps to allow 802.11b and 802.11g devices
to co-exist on the same network." "CRN engineers were able to increase the range of the router with the addition
of Hawking's Hi-Gain 15dBi corner antenna, the HAI15SC. The antenna boosts wireless
signal strength to 15dBi from 2dBi, which significantly improves signal strength
in the environment. In most cases, a true out-of-the-box solution is rare, especially
when it comes to wireless devices. Hats off to Hawking for accomplishing such
a task."

Hawking and AASCO at Daytona 24
see more
02/26/2004![]() 12/23/03) AASCO Motorsports selects Hawking Technologies Hi-Gain Antennas for
the Rolex 24 Hour Daytona Race!
"We are using a 802.11 wireless network that utilizes Hawking antennas on wireless
cameras set to monitor pit lane during the world famous Rolex 24 at Daytona sports
car endurance event. Hawking antennas allow us to extend the range in which we
can view images when competitors' cars enter and exit pit lane and what they do
during the stops. In essence it gives us an eye in the sky back to our pit stall
as well as our transporter/truck. We are also utilizing Hawking antennas to transfer
information between pit-side computers and the server housed in the garage area.
To our knowledge, none of this has ever been done in North America for motorsports
purposes. And, none of it could be possible without Hawking Technologies giving
us the range."
